School and Club Projects

Throughout my time at the University of Northern Iowa, I have completed a variety of projects and assignments that have allowed me to develop and refine my skills in public relations, sports management, marketing, and strategic communication. Through hands-on coursework and real-world applications, I have gained experience creating communication plans, analyzing industry trends, developing promotional strategies, and solving challenges faced by organizations within the sports industry. These experiences have strengthened my ability to effectively communicate, collaborate with others, and approach projects with creativity and attention to detail. The work showcased in this portfolio represents my growth as a professional and demonstrates the knowledge and skills I have developed to prepare for a career in the sports industry.

School Projects

Developed a comprehensive marketing plan for the Eagles Autism Foundation focused on increasing awareness, promoting inclusivity, and generating community impact through a limited-edition merchandise campaign. The project combined sports marketing, consumer analysis, branding, and strategic communication to create a campaign centered around a jersey designed by an artist on the autism spectrum. Through research, SWOT analysis, target market identification, and promotional strategies, this project explored how sports organizations can leverage their platforms to support meaningful social causes while strengthening fan engagement.

Analyzed the NFL’s crisis communication response following Damar Hamlin’s on-field cardiac arrest, focusing on media coverage, organizational messaging, and public perception during a high-visibility crisis. This project examined how the NFL, teams, and media organizations utilized crisis communication strategies, including victim-centered messaging, transparency, and corrective action, while addressing challenges such as uncertainty and misinformation. Through research and communication analysis, this project explored the importance of effective public relations strategies during unexpected events that impact athletes, organizations, and fans.

Produced a feature story highlighting the leadership, teamwork, and personal growth of University of Northern Iowa Dance Team captain Karlee Fuelling. Through interviews and storytelling, this article explored the challenges of leading a collegiate team, preparing for UDA College Nationals, and building a strong team culture within an unfunded athletic program. This project strengthened my skills in sports journalism, interviewing, narrative writing, and human-centered storytelling while showcasing the impact of effective communication within a team environment.
